ALMOST everyone knows the dangers of driving under the influence of alcohol. Yet, they make the same mistakes and lose precious lives. "We are ready to prevent such accidents," says Poreddi Revanth Reddy, a Class XII student of Indus International School in Hyderabad.
Six months of hard work along with the help of teachers saw the birth of a device called "Life Saver - The Alcohol-Free Car". This is a sensor-assisted device and is designed to fit into any vehicle. Sensors mounted on the steering wheel help detect alcohol in the breath of the driver as soon as the car is started. If the sensors detect alcohol, the car will not move. The driver will not have an option but to leave the car and opt for an alternate mode of transportation or have someone who is not under influence of alcohol to drive the car. The software is also programmed to send messages to the nearest hospital and family members from the SIM card connected to the sensor on the front, in case of an accident.
It won gold medal in the Idea Symposium Schoolpreneueur Global Innovation Summit 2019, world's largest youth incubation centre.
This idea has been presented to various companies. Revanth Reddy developed this project after suffering loss of a dear one. He is working on several other models as well, but put a halt on his innovative journey to focus on his studies. He will continue this post his schooling.
